Between traveling to fine art shows across the country, leading workshops and photography trips to capture new images, I spend a lot of time on the road. To inject variety into what could be thousands of miles of monotony, I often seek out the backroads and the places where freeways have 'forgot'. Once important stops for rest or sustenance when traveling cross country, the Interstate system paved the way for efficiency in getting from point A to point B, but at the expense of small towns and businesses along the way.
I make it a point to seek out and patronize these forgotten gems along my path, and pay my respects to those that fell victim to progress. The signs that used to be beacons of salvation, for many, have become roadside tombstones. It is the purpose of this collective to breathe new life and awareness into these forgotten pieces of Americana.
